Labour Weekend jazz and upcoming gigs
This year the Chisnallwood Jazz Band was lucky to play at four events over Labour Weekend.
We kicked off with an early childhood educational jazz show that featured music by Julie Wylie, Michal Bush and Jo Steele. We were lucky to have Michal and Julie starring with us.
We also played at Junior Jazz Jam that day, a unique event for primary school jazz bands. We had the fantasic adjudicator Scott Taitoko (from Ara Jazz) who gave feedback and inspired us by playing with the massed bands at the end. The band were given an exceptional comment:
Chisnallwood really are the gold standard of junior jazz bands across not
only Canterbury but (I believe) the rest of Aotearoa. Well done team!
On Sunday afternoon we had a fun gig playing at Riverside Market to a large audience.
On Monday we were meant to play at the Botanic Gardens but due to the dodgy weather, we played at A Rolling Stone with Sideline Swing.
On Saturday Akina took part in the workshop led by Lana Law and got to open for the evening concert by Ellensburg Big band from the USA.
if you want to catch the jazz band, they will be playing Christmas tunes on Dec 14th at the New Brighton Santa Parade 10:30-11:15am on a Hilton Haulage truck.
And next year on Children’s Day, Sunday March 2nd at St Cuthbert’s Green, Shuttle Drive, Bromley.
