Congratulations to the members who were in the Senior Special Choir at the CHCH Schools’s Festival: William, Rory, Olivia and Breana.

Feb 15 Session one: What we learnt

Scale warm up
1, 1-2-1, 1-2-3-2-1, 1-2-3-4-3-2-1, 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1, etc

No flats or sharps – it’s the key of C
Second to last flat – is the name of the key
Last sharp – one note up

Remember about Gertrude and Cream puffs?

INTERVALS – the distance between 2 notes
Semitone – JAWS theme
Tone (or whole tone) – Happy Birthday

Oct 6th 3.30pm-4.30pm Foyer

Dec 13th 12.30-1pm Re:START mall

Dec 15th with Christchurch Symphony Orchestra

Dec 18,19 Prizegivings


DEC 13 Kids In Town @ the Re:Start Mall 12.30pm – 1pm
11am Mrs Bell departs with band gear and choir warms up in the music room
11.30am choir depart by bus
12 arrive and watch another schools’ performance
12.30 – 1pm Choir then jazz Band perform
1.15pm depart by bus for school

DEC 14 Rehearsal with Halswell choir and CSO 6-8pm
2/4 Klondyke Drive, Hornby. This is the CSO’s regular rehearsal room. See map below.
6pm – 7pm Chisnallwood to rehearse with Halswell choir (this will be the only combined choir-only run-through)
7-8pm Rehearse with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Students are welcome to stay on a bit afterwards and listen to the orchestra rehearse if interested.

DEC 15 Dress rehearsal and performance at the CBS ARENA
12.00pm – 3pm Dress rehearsal. This could finish early so parents, please have your phones ready for a text.
5.30pm Arrive at CBS Arena by 5.30pm at the latest for a 6pm concert start.

Please wear tidy school uniform for the evening performance.

Hark The Herald – last two verses. From 1 minute in you can hear the descant clearly (last verse).

O Come all ye faithful. You can hear what will be our verse 2 descant from 2min15

Here are the lyrics for Conquest of Paradise. The choir will be performing this on March 26 with the orchestra, and for year 6 taster day and on Nov 6th.

The Friday Practice on Dec 14th will be at 2/4 Klondyke Drive, Hornby. This is the CSO’s regular rehearsal room. We are asking for both Chisnallwood and Halswell choirs at 6pm to practice together (this will be the only combined choir-only run-through), then 7-8pm rehearsing with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Students are welcome to stay on a bit afterwards and listen to the orchestra rehearse if interested.

Choirs 2011

  • Thursday block 3 Choir with Mr Atlas
  • Thursday lunchtime – Glee Choir with Jess.

Please note that BOTH YEAR 7 and year 8 student choir members will be performing at all three prizegivings on the 14th and 15th December.
This means that the year 7s will be dismissed on Wednesday 14th at 2.30pm at Thursday 15th at 12.30pm.
Year 8s will need to be present at the year 7 prizegiving on Wed morning.

I will buy one for school and we’ll watch some of it before the end of the year hopefully!
Our festival choir area massed rehearsal will be on Thursday Sept 15th from 12.45pm until 2.45pm at Queenspark School. It is compulsory to attend this.

We will then have a massed rehearsal on the morning of the performance which is Friday 28th Oct at the CBS Arena.
