The Christchurch Big Band Festival Website is a festival we look forward to taking part in every Labour Weekend.

Here are the Chisnallwood performances as well as the full programme!

Thursday Oct 20th (two events)

10:30am -11:15am “Early Childhood Interactive Big Band Jazz” featuring our Chisnallwood Jazz Band and Southland Youth Jazz Band playing music by Julie Wylie, Michal Bush and Joanne Steel.
Bring your pre-schoolers. Entry is free and the free tickets can be pre-booked here.

1pm-3pm our jazz band will play at Junior Jazz Jam with other primary School bands in an adjudicated event by Darren Pickering a jazz tutor from ARA. Koha entry for this event.

Both these events are at the Salvation Army Citadel (853 Colombo Street). Parking available around the back.

Saturday Oct 22nd 

11am-11:45am Performance at Conduit Square (outside Te Pae convention Centre – near Tūranga and Cathedral Square).

Sunday afternoon

Any music student may want to sign up for the Rodger Fox all-in big band workshop.  Parent musicians and siblings might like to join in as well!There’s also an optional parade anyone can join in just before it. (Music downloaded from the Festival website).

Monday Oct 24th – Big Band Picnic

Chisnallwood jazz players will be sharing the stage with Sideline Swing between 1pm-1:30pm.

Please check out the full schedule because apart from the Chissy performances there may be others you’d like to attend! There’s some great bands playing over the weekend and the gala concert is features the Christchurch Youth Jazz Orchestra and Ngā Reo Tīoriori.
