The years marked by the Great Depression, World War II and through to the 1950s are remembered as Hollywood’s Golden Age. During this period, new genres were formed, new stars were born, and the studio system rose to mammoth status.
Musical film popularity was at its highest imparting with us such enduring classics such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin in the Rain and American in Paris.
With the atmospheric Airforce museum as the ideal backdrop, the orchestra will take to the stage to create a golden night featuring some of New Zealand’s top singing sensations, Tim Beveridge, Ali Harper, Nic Kyle and Jess Segal.
With so many favourites from this era the orchestra could be performing all night. Some of the highlights include Lady is a Tramp, Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend, S’wonderful, Embraceable you and of course from the romantic classic, Casablanca, As Time Goes By.
With the red carpet out we invite you to enjoy an evening of glamour, nostalgia and razzle dazzle.

Saturday 2nd November, 7.30pm

Our annual salute to Britannia comes with a twist in 2013. Two nights of performances this aeronautical venue lends itself brilliantly to the vast array of music that celebrates Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines.
Walton’s Spitfire March, Coate’s iconic theme from the classic WWll film The Dam Busters and even a little Monty Python’s Flying Circus will provide the audience with plenty of musical celebration.
The night would of course not be complete without the much loved Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory.
Come ready for the flying of flags the scattering of streamers and to join with the splendid sing-alongs.
