The Chisnallwood Jazz Band performed stunningly at Junior Jazz Jam on Sept 14th.

Junior Jazz Jam is an annual event for primary school  jazz bands up to year 8. There were 6 bands performing this year from Medbury, North Loburn, Westburn, CSM and Christchurch South Intermediate and Chisnallwood.

The performances were listened to by top jazz educators Gwyn Reynolds, Darren Pickering and Scott Taitako and it was valuable to have their input and encouragement.

It was also great to be able to hear other young bands and perform in ARA Music Arts building.

Our band is now gearing up to play at the Christchurch Big Band Festival over Labour Weekend in Margaret Mahy Playground and ReStart Mall.

Please note there is a fantastic opportunity for any age musician to attend jazz workshops in Christchurch on October 22nd (Labour Weekend) including a fantastic Youth Big Band run by jazz maestro Rodger Fox. Register here:

The Christchurch Boys’ Choir is an auditioned choir made up of boys with treble (unbroken) voice from all schools around the city. We provide boys with opportunities to perform in a choir of a high standard and also to tour around the country, performing in many remarkable venues.
We are auditioning for the choir on Wednesday 28th September from 2:30pm at STAC and are reaching out to all schools in the Christchurch community to provide boys with the opportunity to audition. Any boys who want to audition need to email me at to book an audition time. If you could forward this information on to music teachers or into the school notices, that would be much appreciated.
